Omar Wysong
Omar Wysong is a self-taught American painter and sculptor. His works have been featured in the Los Angeles Times as well as BE Magazine. Drawn to metal sculpting due to its malleability and endless possibilities, Omar incorporates urban and dessert themes in relation to modern society and the natural world in his works. A self-taught welder, he uses paint, as well as synthetic and natural patinas, to create a distressed look and convey a history....
βMy work is primarily metal sculpture and paintings often inspired by the southwest and desert ethos often utilizing rust, patinas spray, acrylic and oil paints to create raw, rustic metal sculptures often purposefully distressed to relay a story or past. By welding and forging steel, I make a variety of metal agaves, saguaro, prickly pear, tequila, and various cacti sculptures as well as abstract and industrial inspired freestanding and wall sculptures. I donβt try to make my work perfect due to my inspiration of natures perfect imperfection and that no two things are alike but always different and unique in character.β
